Construction Of Fried Chicken Outlets Begins
ARCHITECT'S DRAWING SHOWS NEW FRIED CHICKEN ADD-ON BUILDING
Work is beginning immediately on the first of the attractive new structural additions
from which Krystal will be
serving the company's newest
and most exciting food item—
Krystal Fried Chicken.
The architect's drawing of the
new "add-on" is featured on
this page. These structures will
be built adjacent to some 90
existing Krystals in every Krystal city during the coming year
as the company moves rapidly
into the increasingly popular
take-out fried chicken field.
Krystal Fried Chicken units
will be entered by a separate
outside door, situated on the
side and at the rear of present Krystals. They will have an
attractive "country kitchen" interior design, in keeping with
the rural motif that will be used
First Krystal Coffee Day Raises More
Than $17,000 For United Campaigns
The enthusiastic cooperation
of Krystal associates, coupled
with the generosity of Krystal
customers, made the first annual Krystal Coffee Day a tremendous success, with more
than $17,000 contributed to united charitable campaigns in the
various Krystal cities.
This sum, representing all the
proceeds from all sales of coffee at every Krystal on Coffee
Day, Oct. 1, is the gift of all
employes of the Krystal Company, and of the company itself, to the united fund campaigns.
As explained last month,
Krystal Coffee Day henceforth
will replace all direct solicitation of funds from Krystal employes through the company.
In other words, the proceeds
from Coffee Day will take the
place of the individual contributions which had been made
in past years through payroll
deductions or by direct pledges
President R. B. Davenport
termed Krystal Coffee Day an
"outstanding success" and congratulated Krystal associates on
their efforts to promote the sale
of coffee on this day.
"Krystal associates can be
proud of having done their part
by urging their customers to buy
an extra cup on Coffee Day,"
Mr. Davenport said.
"In this way, they helped
boost the total Coffee Day proceeds, and this helped make
possible an impressive donation to the many worthwhile
charities and service agencies
supported by united fund campaigns in all the different communities where Krystals are located."
"The company, too, is pleased
to join in making this contribution as one more way of being
a 'good citizen' of each Krystal
in promotion of the delicious
new fried chicken.
There will be no seating in
the fried chicken service units,
and all food items will be packaged to go.
The menu will feature fried
chicken, french fries, cole slaw
and rolls with honey.
While customers will enter
the new fried chicken units
through an outside door, the
units will be connected with the
existing Krystals through what
is now the rear service door. A
new outside door will be situated
at the rear of the add-ons.
Krystal's entry into the fried
chicken field has been carefully planned for many months,
and the recipe for the new
Krystal fried chicken has been
carefully developed in the Krystal Test Kitchen in Chattanooga.
This major expansion into an
entirely new food item is an
important step forward for the
company. The Gazer will be
carrying pictures and articles
to inform every Krystal associate of all new developments.
